Applications are now available for the Women’s Fund El Dorado Wickline Scholarship.

The Wickline Scholarship Fund was established to assist women over the age of 22 who reside on the West Slope of El Dorado County and further their careers by pursuing post-secondary education. Since 2012, WFED has awarded $43,500 in Wickline Scholarships, making a difference in the lives of 29 women.

The scholarship was established from an inherited gift from the late Marian Wickline, who moved from the Bay Area to Placerville in 1988, where she was an active and engaged participant in the community. Wickline, who graduated from Mills College in 1934, was one of the few women at the time to earn a degree in chemistry. Despite the obstacles faced by women of her time, she pursued a successful career overseeing the chemical information department at Dow Chemical in Walnut Creek.

Upon his death in 2009, a bequest to the El Dorado Community Foundation formed the basis of the scholarship in his name. A challenge grant and additional funding from the foundation generated a total of $50,000, allowing WFED to offer the scholarship on an annual basis for generations to come. WFED is honored to celebrate Wickline’s tenacity and strong spirit through its scholarship fund.

To be eligible, students must meet all of the following criteria: be a female over the age of 22; reside on the western slope of El Dorado County; be accepted by and intend to attend an approved educational or vocational training institution; demonstrate financial need; and be available for possible interview by the Wickline Scholar Committee.

Applications are scored based on financial need, personal background, and completeness of application. A person can receive the scholarship twice but must reapply to be considered. For 2022, scholarships of up to $2,000 each will be granted and awarded directly to the school.

Applications are available now and must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 11.

The application must be completed online at womensfundeldorado.org/wickline. Individuals requiring assistance or technical support to complete the form may contact Women’s Fund El Dorado at [email protected]
