Closing of the SS Cyril & Methodius seminar – The Oakland Press

The SS Cyril & Methodius Seminar at Orchard Lake Schools will close at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
St. Mary’s Preparatory High School, part of the Orchard Lake Village organization, is expanding and will remain open.
“The past two years have been filled with change as we have adjusted and evolved our program offerings to keep up with the world around us. This environment of change has now extended to our seminary, ”Orchard Lake School Board of Regents said in a statement.
The seminary’s board of directors recommended the closure to the institution’s largest board of regents, the statement said.
“Our main objective and our focus will be with each of the 11 current seminarians, ensuring, to the best of our ability, that they can complete their studies either in their assigned dioceses or in another seminary.
“The Seminary Council provided the regents with several reasons for its recommendation, including declining enrollment caused by demographic shifts in the United States, more professional opportunities in Poland, and recent policy changes that do not allow seminarians Polish to move from one seminar to another. “
The statement said that the council will assess options in the months and years to come for the buildings that house the seminary.
In all its decisions, the council will keep in mind its mission to advance the Catholic faith as well as Polish culture and heritage.
The seminary has been in operation since 1885.
