Many area school systems announced closures for Tuesday after a major snowstorm dumped up to a foot of snow in parts of the DC area.
Here are the latest school closures and delays:
Public schools of the city of Alexandria
Alexandria public schools and offices and offices will close for learning and in-person activities on January 4. However, the district says there will be virtual learning.
Anne Arundel County
Arlington Public Schools
Charles County Public Schools
Public schools and Charles County offices will be closed. There will be no virtual learning.
Staff members or parents who have signed up to receive a COVID-19 test kit can pick it up at their workplace or at their child’s school on Thursday or Friday.
Culpeper County Public Schools
DC Public Schools
DC public schools were already scheduled to be closed Monday and Tuesday as part of a major effort to test every student and staff member. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that due to the storm, students must now take the tests on Wednesday January 5 and schools will reopen on Thursday January 6.
Fairfax County Public Schools
All Fairfax County public schools and central offices will be closed on January 4. In-person and virtual learning is canceled.
Extracurricular activities and team practices are also canceled.
City of Fredericksburg Public Schools
Public schools in the city of Fredericksburg will be closed on January 4 “due to current road conditions, power outages and the inability to clear parking lots.”
The district said essential workers should report when road conditions are safe.
Howard County Public Schools
Loudoun County Public Schools
All public schools will close on January 4. There will also be no virtual classes. The administrative offices will open at noon.
The Loudoun County School Board meeting will take place as scheduled Tuesday evening.
Manassas City Public Schools
All public schools in the city of Manassas will be closed January 4, 2022 “due to snow and ice conditions in some areas”. The district said it was “Code blue” for employees.
Montgomery County Public Schools
All public schools in Montgomery County will be closed “due to ongoing work to clear ice and snow and keep schools safe for students and staff.”
Administrative offices and central offices will open two hours late and daycare programs in school buildings could open before 9 a.m., the school system said.
Prince George County Public Schools
Prince William County Public Schools
All schools and district offices will be closed on January 4. There will be no face-to-face or virtual classes.
Spotsylvania County Public Schools
Stafford County Public Schools
Public schools and offices in Stafford County will close on January 4.
The district says employees should not report to telecommuting and students will not have virtual learning.
