DUBAI, July 6, 2021 (WAM) – Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) has opened a US $ 1 million vocational training center to create opportunities for young Guineans.
The Advanced Automobile Training Center, located in the town of Boké near GAC’s bauxite mining concession, will provide one-year courses in advanced mechanics of light vehicles.
The project was funded equally by GAC and the German development finance institution DEG – Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, under the develoPPP program funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Highly trained mechanics are valuable employees in the local mining industry. Some graduates should choose to start their vehicle repair business, thereby contributing to wider economic development and creating employment opportunities for others.
Moudatou Bah, a senior executive at GAC who led the project, said: “GAC is an important part of the economy in this region. we are sourcing locally and helping young people develop their successful businesses.
“I look forward to the day when a mechanical company started by a graduate of the Advanced Automotive Training Center will win a tender to provide vehicle repair services to GAC,” she added.
The Advanced Automobile Training Center is just one of GAC’s projects aimed at empowering people in local communities to develop their employment potential or start their small, income-generating businesses.
