In a letter to Gajapati and Kandhamal district collectors on Saturday, Higher Education Department Secretary Saswat Mishra said, “Since a few general university colleges are located nearby, it is undesirable to open a other general university college in the form of this MDC. . Therefore, a decision was made to make another use of this MDC building for the benefit of the local people.
Under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0) scheme, Rs 12 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of each MDC building. Construction at Damerikia in Kandhamal and Tammayapeta in Gajapati is expected to be completed this month.
The Department of Higher Education has asked the two district collectors to explore possibilities for alternative use of the new buildings as professional development or skills centres, school/university hostels, Adarsh ​​Vidyalaya or housing for the government or civil service/institution and submit their proposals to the department at the earliest.
Mishra also wrote to the secretary of the Skills Development and Technical Education (SDTE) department on Saturday to expedite the handover of the two model university buildings at Dhenkanal and Kalahandi to the SDTE department for the opening of industrial and polytechnic training institutions. the low.
