RUNDU – The founder of the Ngato Vocational Training Center in Rundu says private entities need support to equip Namibians with the vocational skills needed to develop the country and create jobs.
Ngato VTC is located in Kehemu location of Rundu.
“We are grateful for the accreditation by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and recognition by the Namibia Training Authority (NTA), as the support of stakeholders gives us the opportunity to do very well. The skills that we offer as a private VTC are necessary for this country to fill the skills gap, ”said John Fernando.
Ngato VTC now has over 160 trainees, has been around for eight years and is working on their accreditation status as required for a private institution so that their trainees have recognized qualifications once they complete and enter the market. work.
“We have maintained the accreditation in the trades for which we offer training, for example, in general electricity, we have a level one to three accreditation; welding level two to three; and level one to three office administration. Just recently, we were accredited by the NQA to provide level four office administration, ”he enthused.
“This now means that we can also train those who have already graduated from level three and who are in the job market and need to upgrade their qualification,” Fernando added.
He said that public professional institutions alone cannot meet all those in need, hence the need to develop private institutions to drive the government’s skills development program.
“Ngato VTC recently organized a free one-week short course, which benefited several members of the Rundu community. They have received training in welding, general electrical and office administration. It was about getting the attention of our community to see what we are offering here, and we gave them certificates of participation, ”said Vinsent Kanyetu, Ngato VTC board member.
“People interested in training but unable to afford the tuition fees can come to the center, and we can see how to help them. As a nation, we should be proud of Ngato VTC, which is the brainchild of local youth focused on skills transformation, ”Kanyetu observed.
“At least we have our own Namibian youth who had this noble idea,” he continued.
