Report Shows Qatar Above Global Average for Active and Emerging Entrepreneurs

GUESSS 2021 National Report on Qatar, Allan-Villegas Mateos, HEC Paris, researcher in Qatar, Allan-Villegas Mateos; Professor Mahmoud M Abdellatif, Director of Qatar College Middle for Entrepreneurship; and Mokter Hossain, assistant professor at Qatar College, revealed that Qatar’s share of energetic and rising entrepreneurs is higher than the regional and global average.
The report shows that being an entrepreneur is the most popular career path for students immediately after starting, although 87% of students surveyed do not take required entrepreneurship courses and 37% do not take a related program.

The report compares students in Qatar with students in 58 countries to provide insight into students’ entrepreneurial career intentions and underlying motivations. It aims to capture the position of universities in selling entrepreneurship exercises in Qatar’s national entrepreneurial ecosystem as the country transitions to a knowledge-based economic system.
Nevertheless, the report reveals that although 89% of searchers are aware of business improvement and acceleration applications, they significantly lose their entrepreneurial intentions within 5 years of starting.
The report suggests three reasons why university students do not pursue entrepreneurial careers: the absence of a strong entrepreneurial tradition among the many young technologies; motivations and attitudes influenced by household expectations and backgrounds; Alignment with the confirmed idea that entrepreneurship is the method of creating an acceptable managerial mindset, expertise and autonomy through the curriculum and extracurricular applications.

The report goes on to offer 4 suggestions to help foster a profitable and sustainable university entrepreneurship ecosystem. These include: the provision of compulsory entrepreneurship programs in all academic fields; increased stakeholder efforts to succeed in university communities, as well as communication, engagement of graduate schools, joint programs, web hosting and sponsorship of entrepreneurial actions, and provision of access to the infrastructure; Develop a stable and effective organizational infrastructure, as well as the leadership of colleges concerned with teaching, curriculum analysis and improvement, the advancement and management of entrepreneurial initiatives related to analysis incentives and rewards, and raising awareness through business incubators, expertise parks, exchanges of information on workplaces, partner-study areas and different infrastructures; ensuring that ecosystem leaders, sponsors and champions simply have the desired monetary and non-financial assets.
Allan-Villegas Mateos said: “The entrepreneurial transformation of the ecosystem will likely be achieved by instilling a tradition of entrepreneurship, developing entrepreneurial competence, accelerating the creation of startups and enterprise products, and influencing the Qatar Nationwide Imaginative and prescient 2030.”
