Rotary Announces McElroy Fellowship | Community


CHESTER, Vt. – The Rotary Club of Chester is pleased to announce a district-wide scholarship in memory of Janice H. McElroy, who served as governor of Rotary District 7870 in 2011-2012 and was instrumental in securing a $412,000 Rotary International grant to help rebuild southern Vermont after the devastation of Hurricane Irene.

This scholarship is made possible through donations from friends, colleagues, and Rotary clubs in District 7870.

Prior to his death in 2014, Jan McElroy requested that all donations received in his memory be dedicated to establishing a scholarship fund for non-traditional students. It will be awarded to someone who is 21 years of age or older and has completed high school or earned a GED. There must be a gap of at least three years between high school graduation and full-time college attendance or a part-time record of college for three years after graduation. high school diploma. The scholarship can be used for the expenses of a four-year or two-year college, or for another type of accredited institution, such as a technical or vocational program. The scholarship will be at least $1,000.

Applications may be obtained from the Green Mountain Union HS Guidance Department, River Valley Technical Center, or the Community College of VT Financial Aid Office, Vermont Technical College, or from William Dakin, Esq., President of Rotary Club of Chester, Vt. The selected recipient will be notified in late May and will receive the award at a Rotary event in the near future.
