Soroptimists of Solano Center Announce Chance to Rise Award Winners


FAIRFIELD – Soroptimist International of Central Solano County recently announced the recipients of this year’s Chance to Rise Award.

They are:

• Margot Juan, a recent graduate of Solano Community College who this semester is continuing her studies in Biological Sciences at UC Davis.
• Annie Byrd, a student at Solano Community College who plans to pursue law studies at UC Berkeley in 2022.
• Katrina Crockett, a student at Solano Community College with the intention of pursuing a career in the medical field.
• Brianna Meddzer, a student at Solano Community College who is considering obtaining her Phlebotomy Technician certificate, working to further advance the medical field.

Chance to Rise is a rewards program for women in the Fairfield / Suisun City area who have demonstrated that they can overcome significant life challenges, have developed a plan to chart a course for a prosperous future through a further education and / or vocational training, and for whom a financial reward would help ensure likely success, according to a press release.

The rewards program is the result of a gift to the club from club member Sally Silvia and her husband Jim Hudak, who have indicated that they wish to focus the efforts of the program on women who have experienced social, financial difficulties. , personal, medical and / or others. in their lives, only to find that their future has been derailed or blocked as they strive to move forward.

This award hopes to identify women who have found themselves in such difficult circumstances, who have risen to their challenges and found a way to create a vision for themselves that will lead to a productive and successful future.

Becky Lessler, the current club president, also announced that Silvia and Hudak recently made an additional donation to the Chance to Rise fund.

This program seeks to find women in order to provide them with the financial assistance which will allow them to “start” their path. To apply, women will be asked to complete an application, provide a written statement describing their particular situation and goals for the future, and provide the names of individual references.

Prices range from $ 2,000 to $ 5,000.
