To the editor of the journal:
A new government study from the CDC reveals that American schoolchildren, especially teenagers, are facing an alarming mental health crisis, made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The CDC study found that most teens experienced negative events of sadness, anxiety, bullying, and even suicidal behaviors during the Covid-19 pandemic. And we have seen these issues locally in our schools.
Monet Borione, as an experienced psychologist trained in suicide awareness, is an ideal candidate for the Marquette Area Public School Board. Monet currently helps administer the Marquette County Health and Human Services Department’s foster care program. And she and her husband are currently foster parents to two young boys and have a son of their own, all of whom are MAPS students. Monet is also president of the Marquette Alger Council on Child Abuse and Neglect.
Monet knows how to leverage community resources and manage grant funds. This is exactly the kind of expertise MAPS needs to help improve the well-being of all MAPS students. She understands how to promote programs, including sports and extracurricular activities, that promote positive self-image in students.
It also promotes programs that will allow parents to become more involved. Please consider voting for Monet Borione for the MAPS School Board on the back of the ballot.
