Welcome to the GW Urban Studies Initiative’s second annual symposium, City and the People! This title nods to the multifaceted relationship of cities to our bodies as well as our (in)tangible collective networks, and references themes that will weave throughout: physical health, intersectional communities, structural violence and the household. Like our inaugural conference, City and the People will provide a space for people to critically dissect urban spaces as an anchor for multiple systemic configurations. These events will dive deep into how neighborhoods are shaped beyond the practical demands of geography, illustrating them as holding sites for migration patterns, identity formations, and the construction of alternative power.
