Zonta Club of Midland awards scholarships and grants


The Zonta Club of Midland offers annual scholarships to women of all ages pursuing career goals that will positively impact the status of women. Funds to support scholarships are raised through the annual Zonta Homewalk which takes place in December.

Zonta is pleased to announce this year’s scholarship recipients, recognized at the May Zonta meeting: Brittany Ames (Mid-Michigan Community College – nursing), Emily Montgomery (Central Michigan University – graduate student in educational counseling ), Kelly Keene (Delta College – nursing), Lyndi Smith (Northwood University – computer/information systems), Rebecca Gamble (Central Michigan University – physician assistant), and Whitney Ellison (Delta College – nursing).

Each recipient receives a scholarship in the amount of $2,500, which can be used at any post-secondary institution for tuition, books, the cost of certification or vocational training. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, professional/life skills, community service/extracurricular activities, GPA/GED, honors/awards, and references.

In addition, the Zonta Club of Midland’s Service Women’s Committee selected eight area organizations to receive service grants: Cancer Services, Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands Dental, Open Door, Self Love Beauty, Family & Children’s Services, Community Mental Health of ex-offenders in Central Michigan and Midland County.

Service grants totaling $7,900 have been awarded to these community organizations, which will help assist women and children with diverse needs and support programs throughout the Midland region.
